“THE DONUT HOUSE PROJECT”
June 1st, River City Donuts (6811 San Pedro, San Antonio, TX) hosts an iconic night overshadowed only by National Donut Day followed by donuts and house music.
Enter #thedonuthouseproject.
With dozens of pounds of dough being prepared in anticipation for the big day, donut shop owner, Yousef Zayed commented on the idea, “I love it.” His family has owned this business for nearly 20 years. This was also when he mentioned it was time to turn the business over to the next family, implying they would close the donut business for good.
Local San Antonio music curator, creator, and current host for Now 96.1, DJ Men-Yo, Noland Arocha, linked with the donut shop management and marketing team no less than 14 days broaching the idea of an event for the “holiday.” Men-Yo followed up and orchestrated the appearance and sets of two more artists within the next 7 days.
Men-Yo brought in San Antonio native, DJ DLO and DJ Luis Amani, of Chicago, with Phunk Junk Records playing house sets between 30 and 45 minutes each. Zayed also had donuts on-hand as treats and give-aways. The entire donut shop transformed into a dance party with bright lights and deep sounds this evening.
Over 60 people joined in, bought donuts, danced, made friends, and shared positive energy throughout the evening. Combining sensory experience of taste and sound could surely be one-of-a-kind in any day and age.
